The commission is the amount of money the merchant site pays to an affiliate for each click, lead, or sale that the affiliate generates. The level of the commission depends on the merchant site. If the referred visitor results in a lead or a sale, you could be paid a fixed amount or a percentage of the sale value. The payments vary according to whichever merchant site you are affiliated to.
